A 5 bedroom, 2600 square foot cottage
at Cape Hurd.
The spacious main living area of the cottage features
cathedral ceilings, hardwood floors, a wood burning fireplace,
and floor to ceiling windows which create a bright and open space
to unwind in. With a couch, loveseat, and two easy chairs, there
is plenty of space for everyone in the family to relax. Here you
can enjoy the 47" HD TV with satellite, VCR or DVD player
on those rainy days.
Adjacent to the living room is a large kitchen and
dining area. All the modern conveniences are available including
fridge, stove, microwave and dishwasher. There is ample counter
and cupboard space to prepare your holiday meals. Patio doors
in the dining room lead to a large deck that extends the entire
width of the cottage.
There are five bedrooms at the cottage. The luxurious
master bedroom, complete with four piece ensuite, is located on
the third storey of the cottage. Here you will find the king size
bed and patio doors that lead out to a deck. On this deck are
the stairs that lead to the crowsnest viewing deck of the cottage.
The view from this crowsnest is unbeatable, and it is the perfect
place to enjoy one of Lake Huron's world famous sunsets.
There are two bedrooms on the main level of the
cottage, each of these with a double bed. The remaining two bedrooms
are on the lower level of the cottage, one with a queen bed, and
one with two single beds.
There are also three bathrooms at the cottage, one
on each level for your convenience.
The lower level of the cottage is a granny suite
almost completely independent of the top floors, complete with
livingroom, kitchen, dining area, two bedrooms, bathroom, pull-out
couch, and separate entrance. There is also a foosball table located
here, which everyone in the party will enjoy on a rainy day.
There are terrace doors that walk out to the ground
level, giving everyone in the party a little more private space.
With over 300 square feet of deck at the cottage
and patio chairs, loungers, muskoka chairs and a barbeque, there
is plenty of space to enjoy the sunny weather.
There is a trail that leads from the front of the
cottage to a public lakeside nature reserve where you can access
the water. The shoreline here is a flat limestone rock with gradual
entry into the water.
The cottage is located only 10 km from the scenic Village of Tobermory
where you can stroll through the shops, visit the library, restaurants
and the beautiful natural harbour, or take a scenic boat cruise
where you can view shipwrecks, lighthouses and visit Flowerpot Island.
Also, dinner cruises aboard the Chi-Cheemaun are very popular.
For hikers, naturalists and scuba divers, the area is a dream.
A 10 minute drive away, guided tours are available along the Niagara
Escarpment, or along the sandy shores of Singing Sands on Lake Huron.
Amphitheater programs are available at Cyprus Lake at dusk and are
informative and entertaining.

Great Place to Stay
Reviewed by A FlipKey verified reviewer on 08/04/2011
We had a great experience in this very comfortable and luxuious cottage. We experienced a minor, unforseen issue which was dealt with effectively and with genuine concern for the customer. We also had follow-up calls to ensure our issue was resolved and out comfort was met. I would rent this cottage again.
Money well spent!

The place was clean, spacious, and just as pictured. Lake Huron was only a few minutes away and bikes are available in the garage. Aside from the poor weather on the first two days, it was absolutely amazing! Highly recommended

The home was beautiful. The only part I was not pleased with was the cleanliness of the home. The kitchen tile was dirty along with something that was spilt and all sticky infront of the fridge. All the mats/carpets were in desperate need of a good shaking. The bathroom upstairs was clean, but whomever cleaned the mirror must have used something other than glass cleaner. It was so streaked you seriously could not see yourself. Even though we did not use the basement, we did venture down at the beginning of our arrival. The toilet in the basement bathroom had a brown mess inside.
My husband and I spent 1.5 hours cleaning the upstairs and main level, including the staircase that had lots of fur from a cat or dog. When paying so much money for a nice place, I did not appreciate the condition the home was left in for our arrival.
The location of the home, large back deck, the neighbour we met walking down the road, the picturesc area, crystal clear water, and the peace and quiet were all very memorable.

We sincerely apologize for the condition you found the cottage in upon your arrival. We rely on a contract cleaning staff for many rentals and obviously this arrangement failed this time. We assure you that this was an exception that has not been repeated since.
Beautiful home and exquisite surroundings
Reviewed by A FlipKey verified reviewer on 09/02/2009
- Beautiful, clean, well maintained and well furnished home providing more than adequate comfort for the 6 people in our party.
- 4 good quality bicycles in the garage that can be used to explore the area.
- a good quality two-seater inflatable canoe, a good inflatable boat and a good plastic two-seater canoe available in the garage.
- The observation deck is absolutely wonderful. Use the Maede telescope with digital tracking unit provided to explore the night sky from the platform. There is zero light polution, so lots to see that you will never see from the city.
- Highspeed Internet access was great.
- When going down the stairs from the master bedroom, the last two or three steps are painted such that they completely blend in to each other and the landing. Several people (including myself) tripped because they didn't see the additional steps. Recommend adding some friction strips to provide contrast (with the added benefit of adding traction).
- The trail leading to the water from the back of the house is almost inaccessible. Lots of fallen trees and branches that block the path on the way. Poison ivy is everywhere.
- The TV is an old style rear-projection TV that has significant colour alignment issues that could not be corrected using the remote. However, it's fine for watching news and weather (which is all you should be doing when there).
- The quality of the drinking water is moderate (compared to city water standards). The odor when taking a shower is pugnent. You must use bottled water for drinking and cooking.
- The instructions for the telescope were not available. We downloaded it of the Internet to be able to utilize it. It would be handy if an instruction brochure was available.
- Frequent power outages (lasting only a few minutes).
Manager Response: Aug 11, 2016
Thank you for your visit and thank you for your concern regarding poison ivy. To the best of our knowledge and familiarity with our property, we are unaware of any presence of this scourge and we keep a regular lookout for its infiltration. However, we have found poison ivy at several other nearby locations which you may have visited during your stay - so please beware.
To be sure, the beautiful tall, summer bush with the reddy-brown stem, the clumps of creamy berries, and the smooth-edged green leaves that lines the north side of the driveway, and which you may have seen freely growing in many other areas of the Peninsula, is the harmless and much enjoyed Red Osier Dogwood. Thank you again.
As of 2015, there is a new 46”LED TV with Bell satellite programming at the property for your enjoyment.

Beautiful, secluded get away
Reviewed by lesley on 01/26/2009
This is a beautiful cottage. It is surrounded by forest to give the impression that you are completely secluded. It is a short walk to the water - rugged shoreline - you can hear the waves crashing in at night. There is the added bonus of the crow's nest which is just wonderful at night for stargazing. We totally enjoyed our stay there.

We visit Tobermory every year and fully expect to eventually purchase a cottage in this area. Although we generally stay closer to downtown Tobermory, we enjoyed the sound of Lake Huron and sitting under the starry night sky.
The home was beautiful and had every convenience. Nevertheless, what stops me from giving it a 5 star rating were the countless "Private"/"For Family Use Only" signs that were peppered throughout the cottage. While I understand this is a family home first and foremost, perhaps some of the more coveted items could have been squired away in one of the storage areas rather than be out and forbidden. This is a minor thing, but it did make me feel as though I was trespassing almost. We are repeat customers to your cottage rental company (but new to this cottage) and have never experienced this before.
Manager Response: Jan 23, 2009
The owner of the cottage has removed the majority of these signs. They appreciate your feedback and agree there were too many of these in the cottage.
