Great space but too hot

My family and I really enjoyed our stay at the cottage although there was not enough fans or air conditioning. There was plenty of space for all of us and we love that we could bring our dogs.
Nice, Large Cottage in Suburban Neighbourhood
Reviewed by Erinn_MM on 08/03/2016
This cottage was a nice size, good layout, and a great spot for kids. The cottage also had a well-stocked kitchen. The walk to the beach is a bit long and not doable with young kids and gear. We planned to drive to the beach and did most days. It is located in a suburban rather than more cottage, beachy area of Southampton. Keep that in mind depending on the setting you would like. The area is quite calm and quiet though and close to a great trail. The cottage itself could have been cleaner upon our arrival, our feet were black after walking around for a few minutes. The floor mop left for tenant use is not ideal though. I also cleaned quite a bit of pet hair and we did not bring a pet. I think for our next cottage I will choose something that provides linens, towels and a cleaning service in between to save the work but that is personal preference. The cottage has a great amount of toys for the kids, they loved this. The downside if you are bringing a baby: the crib is located in the master bedroom and cannot be moved. Our baby ended up having the full master bedroom so that was a bit disappointing. The yard is nice and big as well as the deck, the landscaping does need some love. Having a clothesline is a great bonus after visiting the beach. The key pad on the door was so convenient for us too. Southampton itself is a great, not too crowded destination. The public playground and museum are excellent for kids. The beaches are absolutely beautiful. If you have young ones, head to the beach entrance at the very base of Island St., giant sandbar and no rocks. The water is very calm here too.

The house was located just a few blocks from the beach and right on the Saugeen Rail Trail. Had a great stay. Lots of room and very clean.
Accomodations were great!

This was our second time staying here and we found it very clean, and sleeping arrangements very suitable to our needs. Young grandchildren remembered all the toys from last year and this again was a big hit and help for rainy days. Being on the end of the cul-de sac made it very safe for children and extra room for balls and road hockey.
Very Quiet & Relaxing, close to town, great for kids of all ages

We really loved the house, had lots of room, had a nice size backyard that we could play badminton and other activities in. Loved that the house was located so close to the beach and to town. We daily went for walks to town and around, and walked to the beach with the kids several times a day! We also loved that we were able to bring our four legged family member! Our dog is our newest addition to our family of six. There were a few small things in the house that needed repair, but nothing major that one could not do without for a week. It was a wonderful cottage to stay at, again the location was wonderful!
A comfortable home in Southampton
Reviewed by A FlipKey verified reviewer on 08/04/2011
More like a comfortable house than a cottage, we enjoyed staying at this location, but would've preferred being closer to the beach. The best part was being right beside the old railway trail which connects to trails along the lake. We brought our bikes so made full use of these trails.
There was plenty of room for our son, the dog, and grandma. The deck, firepit, and BBQ out back was perfect for a relaxing evening. We had to keep our dog inside so as to not disturb the neighbours on one side who also has a dog.
Southampton beach was a short bike ride away, though it's too far to walk with beach gear.
Only one small complaint: kitchen drawers were a little cluttered with owners' things, and the cupboards needed a good wipe down.
I recommend this lovely home.

We loved the cottage. There was ample room in the bedrooms and the beds were very comfortable. Kitchen was a nice size. Loved that there was a good amount of dishes and appliances to utilize. There could have been more light in the dining area. The house was close to town and it was easily accessible to the beach within good walking distance. Definitely a repeat place to stay.
Southampton, Ontario's Paradise..

We enjoyed our stay at cottage #472, we liked being at the end of Island Road, with a trail to walk through, and fairly close to the private beach, that is worth the car ride or twenty minute walk or so with in a beautiful neighbourhood. The cottage had all accessories, and the beds were quite comfortable, It was nice having a TV in the master bedroom with an ensuite. We had gorgeous weather, it got pretty warm inside the cottage, another ceiling fan might help. The deck needed a paint job, and some repairs on the railing, the garden also needed some TLC, it seemed a bit overgrown. Porch at the front was too small to sit on. In conclusion we loved sitting by fire, under a warm starry night.
A Family Friendly Place To Stay
Reviewed by A FlipKey verified reviewer on 09/27/2010
Our stay in Southampton was blessed with very hot summer weather which made our time at the beautiful beach with its wonderful breezes the highlight of our vacation. Having young children in our group, as well as beach paraphernalia, made it necessary to drive back and forth to the beach, otherwise a 15-minute walk, probably the biggest downside; however, proximity to the water would have made this cottage much more expensive, and for us it was affordable. The cottage is fairly private at the end of a dead end street right near to the walking trail that extends a long way in both directions, a bonus for hikers and bikers, stoller pushers and dog walkers. There were plenty of fans in the well-equipped, bright, modern cottage to help us endure the heat. The grandkids loved the room with bunkbeds and lots of toys, and the crib was an asset. Furthermore, we were able to bring our Labrador retriever to this dog-friendly cottage, which is generally a real limitation when it comes to renting nice cottages. This cottage had everything we needed for a good-sized family and was both pleasant comfortable.

Our cottage experience from the first contact with rentcottage.com to the last look at the cottage as we drove away was very professional and first rate. The cottage was exactly as described with well tended property and everything we needed to make our stay a positive one. The location was private and quiet yet close to everything and while we could have walked to the beach we chose to drive as we had so much to bring with young grandchildren. The cottage was really a home away from home and the added bonus of children's toys available to play with was a pleasant surprise. As well, I appreciated the wifi connection and satellite TV. Overall, I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone.

We were very happy with cottage #472. It was spacious and well equipped. Our family consisted of four adults and 3 children with one dog. There was plenty of room for everyone. It was also a nice suprise to find that the home was located on a cul-de-sac and very private. The kitchen was somewhat small but all the pots/pans/dishes/etc were of good quality and the dining room table fit the entire family easily. It was an easy walk to the beach although we chose to drive as we had beach equipment to bring along. Even though the weather was not the greatest during our visit we still found plenty to do in the area. I highly recommend Southampton for a vacation spot and Cottage #472 provides a comfortable stay.
Clean, comfortable and convenient
Reviewed by PeterN on 07/23/2009
This cottage is very private at the end of a cul de sac on the southern edge of Southampton. While not on the beach, it was an easy walk to very lovely Chantry Beach and a comfortable walk to town.
Inside, the cottage was very clean and extremely well equipped. The kitchen was a joy to use with new pots and pans as well as dishes. 5 adults were very comfortably accommodated on two levels and there was still one bedroom we didn't even need! There is a spacious deck out back as well.
The decor is neutral and all in good condition with leather furniture in the living room. TVs in LR and master bedroom with satellite and there is a DVD in the LR.
We would happily stay here again.

We enjoyed our Thanksgiving weekend at the Southampton cottage # 472. Our grown children accompanied us and every one had a good time. The beach was close by and walking into town was fun for all. We would definately recommend it. We would have liked an additional lounge chair in living room and maybe a gas fireplace, but we are getting too demanding. It was really great !

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with all the comforts of home- 2 flat screen tvs, satellite, central vac, 2 full baths, laminates and ceramics throughout. Definitely not roughing it. All furniture and beds were up to date and comfortable.
A bit of a walk to the beach but not far- 5 minutes. Right at the entrance to the rail trail for biking and walking and a nice walk to civilization-small town downtown with lattes, dvd rentals etc. and a short walk to Tim Horton's too.
