Note: Many of the pictures on this
web page have been taken using a 16 mm wide angle lens. We use this lens
to show as much detail as possible in each of the rooms of the cottage. This
makes the rooms seem larger than they really are.
Welcome to Blue Mountain Thornbury Escape, and escape you do in this
4 bedroom, 2400 square foot home perched on the Niagara Escarpment where
you can experience the stunning panoramic view of the crystal blue waters
of Georgian Bay.
As you drive up to the cottage you are welcomed by the beautifully landscaped
grounds with flower beds and water pond.
Walking up the stairs to the covered porch and entering the ground level
of the cottage, you will find terra cotta floors throughout, a washer
and dryer for your convenience, a bedroom perfect for the kids with a
set of bunk beds (double bottom/single top) and a table for all their
games and activities. From the entrance hall you can walk through the
double glass french doors and find yourself in a private living area featuring
a leather sofa, wood burning fireplace, TV, and large picture windows
that look out to the covered porch. There is also a Queen size bed and
a four piece en suite bathroom boasting a walk in shower and Jacuzzi tub.
From here, up a flight of stairs is the main level of the cottage done
throughout in wide wooden plank flooring. Here you can prepare all your
meals in the large spacious gourmet kitchen equipped with everything the
Chef in the family needs including fridge, oven, gas stove top, microwave,
and dishwasher, making the after dinner clean up easy. Once the feast
has been prepared, you and your family can enjoy dining in the dining
area with a table and seating for six or on the deck; both offer you an
amazing view of Georgian Bay.
The dining area has a walkout patio door to the large deck looking out
to beautiful Georgian Bay. On the deck there is propane BBQ, patio table
with seating for six, umbrella, and eight Muskoka chairs, lots of space
for everyone. At the back of the home there is a small deck and patio
area with outdoor bar.
After dinner venture to the living area and down into the cozy couch
or one of the two leather chairs with a glass of wine or a coffee while
you put your feet up on the over sized ottoman. Here you can take in a
stunning Georgian Bay sunset through the floor to ceiling picture window
or catch a movie with the family on the 38” High Definition LCD
television. On those cooler evenings curl up with a good book and enjoy
the warmth of the gas fireplace.
Two bedrooms are located on the main level of the cottage. The master
bedroom has a queen size bed and en suite entrance to the main floor three
piece bathroom. The second bedroom has double glass french doors with
no curtains, and two single captains beds making it another great room
for the kids.
The three piece bathroom on this floor features ceramic flooring and
tile throughout, a sink with ample counter space for everyone, and a double
walk in shower with glass doors. This bathroom has two entrances, one
entrance door off the main hallway with frosted pane glass and then an
en suite door to the master bedroom.
During the evenings when the sky is clear and millions of stars are twinkling
brightly there’s no better time to have a campfire; the kids get
to roast marshmallows, make spider dogs, sing camp songs, and create a
memory that will last a life time!
Even though the cottage is not on the water, you can still enjoy a swim
in Georgian Bay. Just a short drive away (5km) is Meaford's Bayfield Street
beach with it’s sandy shores or there is also Christie Beach Conservation
area with a sandy beach, just 6.7 km away.
Looking for something to do? A 5 minute drive into the town of Meaford
has something for everyone. Stroll around the harbour and marina, bring
your bicycles and ride along the Georgian Trail (the old rail line) to
Collingwood, browse the shops, visit the museum/live music/theater (Meaford
Hall), or take a break from the kitchen and enjoy some fine dining (if
you find McGuinty's, there is a spectacular view of the harbour to enjoy
and sometimes there's live music).
The town of Thornbury is less than 10 minutes from the cottage, it has
fine dining , shopping, the arts, the Beaver River Dam and the Mill.
Perhaps you prefer to holiday when the ground is blanketed with white
fluffy snow. The home is winterized and located 15 minutes to the hills
of Blue Mountain resort and the cross-country skiing at the Scenic Caves
or Kolapore Uplands which is a famous mountain biking, hiking, and climbing
