Just an hour and a half drive from Toronto, the Redwood Retreat is a well maintained and welcoming waterfront cottage situated on the north shores of Lake Simcoe with easy access to downtown Orillia and Casino Rama. Whether it is lazy days in the sun while taking occasional dips in the lake, heading out to dinner, or trying your hand at the tables, there is something for everyone to do.
This 1300 square foot, 3 bedroom 2 bathroom cottage can comfortably accommodate your family and is an ideal vacation choice for small groups and families.
Newly renovated and with extensive hand crafted furnishings, this property is ready to welcome you for your stay. Inside the cottage the open plan kitchen, dining room and living room is a great space for your whole group to come together to share time together and play games.
The large kitchen area makes meal preparation a pleasure. The kitchen has a window over the sink and is well equipped with lots of storage space, dishes, cutlery, fridge/freezer, stove, oven, microwave, toaster, coffee maker and water cooler. Patio doors provide plenty of natural lighting, views of the lake and easy access from the kitchen to the rear deck. You can enjoy meals at the high top island table that seats eight or at the kitchen table with bench seats. The island table is a great spot for morning coffee and casual conversation while enjoying a lake view.
The comfortable living room provides space to relax on the leather
couch, chair and love seat while watching the 42" HD TV with
satellite or watching a movie on the DVD player. There is a radio
and stereo for your listening pleasure. Or cozy up on a cool evening
and enjoy the warmth of the gas fireplace. From the living room
there is a door to the rear sunroom where you can enjoy card and
board games and access the rear deck.
There are three good sized bedrooms, each with a window. Two of the bedrooms each have one queen bed and the third bedroom has two queen beds. There are two bathrooms - one is a two piece with a sink and toilet while the other bathroom is a four piece with a combination tub/shower. There is also a laundry room with a high efficiency washer and dryer for your convenience during your stay.
Enjoy the peace and privacy of the spacious two level rear deck and backyard. Surrounded by tall evergreen hedges, you can enjoy the backyard space in quiet relaxation. Have a seat at the patio table in the shade of the umbrella. There are ample patio chairs and two loungers. The rear deck is the perfect spot to take in the fresh air, socialize, enjoy your favourite book and summer beverage, catch some sun and take in the panoramic lake view. There is also a propane BBQ for grilling your favourite summer meals.
In the backyard next to the deck is a lovely pond and garden. The large grass rear yard is generally level and is great for yard games. From the cottage it's an easy walk to the lake where you will find a unique peninsula with a bench on the end. This is a very special spot to take in the lovely sunrise or sunset while looking across the beauty of Lake Simcoe. The shallow slipway at the waterfront allows you to wade out into the water and maybe take a swim out to the swim platform. There is also a 50 foot dock at the shore. The water in the lake is shallow and clear and the water depth increases very gradually, which the lake bottom is stone/pebble. There is a firepit located right down at the waterfront so you can enjoy a campfire together.
There is plenty to see and do in the area. The cottage is a great base from which to explore Orillia's area attractions including Casino Rama, summer boat cruises, and the Stephen Leacock Museum. Take in some live performances at the Orillia Opera House and the Mariposa Folk Festival. You're not far from shopping, restaurants, entertainment, and a good number of annual festivals and attractions. A quick drive will take you to sand beaches at J.D. Tudhope Park and Couchiching Beach Park.
If you are looking for some exercise Orillia has an extensive trail network for walking, jogging and cycling. At Mara and McRae Provincial Parks there are swimming areas and hiking trails or try one of the local golf courses.
