...large cottage but could do with some updating. We spend 2 weeks in June there, weather wasn't that brilliant at that time but that didn't matter. The cottage is a large house with great amenities (gas fireplace, table tennis, canoe, rowing boat etc. but all the furniture and build ins could really do with some updating or even replacement. We love the master with the en suite bathroom and the walk in closet but because of the wooden walls it felt really dark and dull inside, despite being so large. The large wooden deck out into the lake as been awesome! Almost everyday another fantastic sunset! We'd had a lovely time there.

Our family had a great time at this beautiful place. The cottage itself was very decent and the location was very private and relaxing with its own private beach. Cant say anything bad. Was a great experience and look forward to going back.
My family and I thoroughly enjoyed this cottage property!

This cottage property was fabulous. The grounds were perfect and the cottage was great. We loved having access to the canoe and the view of Georgian Bay truly took our breath away. At times it appeared so blue we swore we were in the Carribean! The kids enjoyed the volleyball/badminton net, as well as the ping pong table. If there was one improvement to be made to bring this rating to an "Excellent" 5 stars, it would be for the beds to be upgraded. The masterbedroom has a sagging mattress that made for a poor nights sleep. Otherwise we loved our time at this cottage and would consider renting it again (especially if the beds were replaced).
Great yard - decent cottage

Ping pong table is a health and safety hazard. It has to go. It is going to fall on someone. That back section of the cottage is really musty. Living room is the best room in the house (it is quite large) but furniture needs updating. The furniture in the sun room also needs updating - that room should be more inviting and useful than it is. The yard and the beach are the highlight, though a dining set would be a great improvement on the picnic table. The cleaning requirements at the end of the stay are really over the top though. It is really only a 6 day rental because you get in late on day 1 and have to be out early on the last day and you are expected to vacuum and wash floors!!?
Good but could have been great.
Reviewed by A FlipKey verified reviewer on 08/08/2013
Overall it was a good experience, but there were several flaws keeping it from a great experience. Upon arrival we discovered only one key in the lock box. Three of the beds still had used linens on them. At the end of our stay, when we started to clean, the vacuum spewed dirt and grit, because the bag was over full. All of these things could have been remedied if the owner had taken a little more care.
For the price, cleaning should be included.
On the positive side - great location, lots of room inside and out. Plenty to keep everybody occupied regardless of the weather. Well equipped kitchen, second fridge in sun room very handy.

Amazing cottage location

We had a great experience at this cottage. It had everything we needed for cooking and grilling and relaxing. We had some rain a couple days and watched satellite tv. We had gorgeous sunsets. The view is simply spectacular. We went boating. The cottage was comfortable and private. The only downside for us was that we went in early June when it is much too cold to swim in Georgian Bay. I can only imagine how wonderful this place would be in august.
Kitsch & Cosy with a gorgeous lakeside outlook

Rainbow Beach cottage is a 'good' option for cottage accommodation in Owen Sound.
When you enter the cottage you'd be forgiven for expecting your Grandma to pop her head around the corner with a plate of cookies...
It's 100% kitsch, with its vintage & antique collectables, old school furniture and a fun selection of videos from the 80's & 90's when we all still used Vcrs. It's not luxurious, but it is homely and has a well stocked kitchen for easy eat-in meals.
As two couples, we stayed for 4 days over Easter and were out during the day & home for evenings, so the cottage suited us and was well 'winterized'. The deck overlooking the lake offered us some gorgeous sunsets and the ping pong table gave us hours of fun. The living area is generous so it could easily accommodate families holidaying together.
If you're looking for a down-to-earth, homely cottage experience, then this property will be great for you as it's an easy drive into Tobermory and close to many Bruce Trail hikes.
It could definitely do with an upgrade, whilst retaining its vintage charm, and some plug-in fragrance diffusers might help to offer a fresher first impression as the property did feel a little musty when we arrived.
All in all we were happy with our time at Rainbow Cottage and thank them for having us!

It is a lovely spacious cottage with everything you need for an enjoyable week. Lots of indoor and outdoor activities (great box of sport equipment) including a ping pong table for rainy days. Terrific deck and waterfront. The water was very shallow and very quiet, good canoeing and did not see any motorboats. Pleasant drive into Owen Sound for shopping, folk music festival and drive-in theatre.

The cottage itself is very roomy with lots of space for everyone to be comfortable and have some privacy. The beds were excellent and very comfortable. The furniture in the living area is quite old and uncomfortable. The kitchen is roomy and with a big kitchen table. The one bathroom is incredibly and uncomfortably small and the mirrors are placed very high on the wall so my children had to use the master bathroom to see themselves. The view was amazing, never seen better, the deck placement is perfect, but I don't feel that the description of the water and swimming conditions were that accurate. This is a very cold lake. It may have been 70 degrees. Too cold for small kids. Neither one of my kids swam all week. It was so rocky that it was uncomfortable to wade in and I almost twisted my ankle a couple of times. Rock skipping and the view was our main use of the water. There was lots to do in the area, Grey Bruce has so much to do we will definitely return to the area. Too much to do conditions re: Cleaning the cottage at the end of our stay. Had to be out by 10am and they wanted us to remove fingerprints from the windows and doors. Sigh!

Upon arrival the cottage was just as described and very clean. The kitchen was very well stocked, which meant that we only had to worry about taking food etc. We took our 7 year old and 15 month old and were very happy with the safety side for the youngest one. All of us, especially the kids enjoyed the private beach area and the use of the boats etc. Everything was there for us to use and it was a wondeful vacation. Thank you.

One minor item that concerned us was tiny little leak in the rowboat. We could not go out very far without filling up with water....
my 2year old daughter at the time found it quite fun!

not good for swimming

The cottage was very clean and roomy. The beds were comfortable. They have a great selection of movies and one of the two bathrooms is renovated. The view on the water was very pretty and the grass all around the cottage was great for outdoor activities. However, we were very disppointed with the beach. This is not a good cottage for swimming. The kids were only in the water if they were floating on air mattresses or in the canoe. The beach was too rocky and made it almost impossible to enter the water. The rocks in the water were very slimmy. Although this is a shallow entry body of water, it is not swimming friendly. We ended up going to Sauble Beach for swimming (1/2 hour away) which was AMAZING!

We absolutley LOVE this cottage. We love it for so many different reasons such as... all one floor, cozy cozy cozy, we love how confortable the actual furniture is, typocally at cottages the couches are uncomfortable and dirty. I love how the family room is carpeted, it makes its so cozy and warm. And the colours you have chosen are warm as well. The bathroom is nice, bright and large. The master bedroom is fantastic. Love the walk in closet and the bed itself is very confortable. Sleep is everything, you want comfort. Kitchen is nice and roomy and very clean, actually one of the very first things we noticed when we first rented the cottage is how clean it is, its wonderful!! The yeard, Oh my god the yard! We LOVE the yard. Its perfect! you get the trees and the grass and its all nice and flat to walk around and the beach is perfect! Love the sand and how clean everything is, no weeds, guk or any of that. makes swimming much more enjoyable. The laundry room is simply a bonus! We used it at leat 4 times. The cottage is eqippped beautifuly with all the neccessities. We will be renting again for 2 weeks hopefully in 2009. Thanks for everything, we love your cottage.

This was a great cottage, well equipped with everything needed to live comfortably indoors, as well as use of a small boat and equipment to do outdoor activities.
Our favourite part was the proximity to Georgian Bay, and getting to view beautiful sunsets every night. The cottage being situated right on the water also has a very small beach area for little ones to play, and a deck at the shore also which was lovely.
Besides bringing your own linens, it would be best to bring your own lifejackets & water shoes.
The owners should be very proud of their beautiful property, and we hope we will get the chance to stay there again in the future.

We spent a week at this cottage and were very impressed. There
was lots of room for all 5 in our party to relax. We enjoyed the large
windows from the kitchen and living room with the view of the lake.
The ping-pong table was a nice bonus for a rainy day. We also
enjoyed the cottage's close proximity to Owen Sound and all the
amenities that town has to offer.
The best part about this cottage was the yard. There is a huge
grassy yard, perfect for the kids to play. The cottage provided
everything we needed to enjoy a game of badminton. There was
even a swing and a relaxing hammock.
The deck by the lake provided gorgeous views of the sunsets and it
was a such a peaceful place to relax. The best part for the kids in
our party was the sandy area leading into the water. We also
enjoyed the canoe.
The only thing about this cottage that we didn't like were the old,
uncomfortable mattresses. We had trouble sleeping and woke up
with back pains. If the owners ever replace those mattresses, we'd
rent it every summer.
