Welcome to Reflections on Oxtongue"!
This exquisite 2,500 sq. ft., 3 level, 5 bedroom log cottage is nestled on 3 acres of land on the tranquil shores of Oxtongue Lake. The owners lovingly restored and updated the entire cottage during the winter of 2020, creating an incredibly warm and inviting 4-season home away from home, with each season offering different but equally fabulous experiences!
You will relax the moment you step into the foyer and will instantly be drawn into the sophisticated charm and comfort of each and every room you enter, with gorgeous chinked wood walls and rich wood floors throughout. The cottage is large but very cozy, suitable for multigenerational families, with the main level catering to family gatherings. The open concept kitchen/dining room is to one side of the entrance and the living room and Muskoka room are to the other side. The kitchen will be every chef's delight with stainless steel appliances, a kitchen island and plenty of counter space for prepping meals while taking in amazing lake views. Enjoy meals at the beautiful harvest dining table, taking in the same peaceful lake views, and on cooler evenings be warmed by a crackling fire in the wood stove located between the kitchen and dining area. Then relax in the living room with after dinner drinks, followed by a game of shuffleboard or a late night movie in the Muskoka room. A Muskoka room is a bonus at any cottage as it allows you to feel one with nature on inclement days, but this one is particularly stunning as it has 3 sides of floor to ceiling windows and when looking straight out it feels as if you are on top of the lake!
All 5 bedrooms are tastefully appointed, one on the lower level with its own 3-piece ensuite bathroom, and 4 on the upper level, all with vaulted ceilings, 3 with lake views, 3 to one side of the staircase and the spacious master bedroom to the other side.
The owner's named their cottage "Reflections on Oxtongue" for a very good reason as the rock face across the lake projects breathtaking reflections onto the water, any time of the day, but especially at sunset. The property has so much to offer, with so many places for the entire family to spread out and relax. With an eastern exposure enjoy sunrises and your morning coffee on the large deck or dock and watch the mist rise off the water while listening to the magical call of the loons. The shallow entry to the side of the dock is great for both young and old alike and with the water being 8 feet deep at the end of the dock, the older kids will enjoy jumping off into the clear lake water to cool off on hot summer days. The cottage is ideally located at the northern end of the lake, with little boat traffic making it perfect for quiet paddling, and with a canoe, paddle boat and kayaks at your disposal, be sure to get out on the water and explore the lake. Algonquin Outfitters and many trails are within walking distance from the cottage and just 2 minutes from OFSA trails for snowmobile enthusiasts in the winter.
If you can tear yourself away from the cottage, there is so much to do in the area, all year round. World renowned Algonquin Park is just 10-15 minutes away (West gate entrance), offering an abundance of hiking trails and wildlife, but most popularly, offering spectacular leaf colours in Autumn. Arrowhead Provincial Park, a 35-40 minute drive away, has ice skating and cross-country ski trails and even a tubing hill. 10 minutes from Arrowhead is the historical town of Huntsville with quaint shops to explore on Main Street and a wide selection of cafes and restaurants to choose from.
As the day comes to an end, light up the BBQ for dinner and dine on the expansive deck, then gather at the lakeside stone patio around the fire pit, roasting s'mores while taking in the exceptional sunsets on the rock face, and as the sky fills with a blanket of stars, count your blessings!Day trips are the best from Dwight! Visit the beautiful Oxtongue River, Ragged Falls, Marsh's Falls, Henrietta's Pine Bakery, the Dwight Trading Post, eat at Erika's Bakery or go camping! The scenery is rugged with lush forests all around. Dwight is on the way to Algonquin Park.
