Welcome to this gorgeous 4-season, 2,600 sq. ft., 4 bedroom “True North Log Homes” cottage, perched above the peaceful shores of Colbourne Lake. A long private driveway takes you through the middle of the property’s 26 acres of land and by the time you arrive at the expansive parking area in front of the cottage, you will feel the weight of your busy city life evaporate as you settle into your peaceful surroundings!
The cottage was actually built by the previous owner in 2005, who devoted many years of his life to its creation and maintenance, resulting in a cottage with great personal attention to detail, a true labour of love. The current owner has added his own contribution of personal touches with an abundance of wall hangings throughout of his own beautiful photography of stunning Canadian landscapes.
The interior main level of the cottage is a spacious open concept kitchen/dining/living area finished with wood clad walls and wood clad ceilings with rustic wood beams, rich engineered hardwood floorings and comfortable furnishings throughout. The kitchen has many of the modern conveniences of home with gorgeous granite countertops and plenty of space for prepping meals for the family to enjoy at the beautiful harvest dining table. Three walls of large picture windows and glass doors fill the entire space with soft natural lighting and the glass doors enable direct walk-out to the cottage’s large covered wrap-around deck and open side deck.
The upper level has a 4-piece bathroom and 3 bedrooms, with the large master bedroom having its own sitting area and private deck. The lower level has the 4th bedroom with its own 3-piece ensuite, a laundry room and a family room with direct walk-out to the path down to the waterfront.
Start your mornings off with breakfast on the deck, then head down to the dock to take in fantastic panormamic lake views and enjoy all that the lake has to offer. Coulbourne Lake is one of the quietest lakes in the Haliburton Highlands and is full of hidden nooks to explore. For avid boaters who want to bring their own boat, there is a private boat launch on the property from which boats may be launched directly from a boat trailer from a pathway adjacent to the cottage. Fishing is excellent with bass and trout being your most likely catch, however you may have to compete for them with the local otters!
For those that just want to while away the hours in the sunshine and stay closer to home, the shallow hard packed sand and gravel at the 300 feet of natural shoreline is perfect for young and old alike for entering into the lake and the deeper water at the end of the dock is great for the older ones to jump into and enjoy the amazing swimming.
For land lovers, the property’s vast acreage has so much to offer year-round, there is even an original century old log cabin to check out not too far from the current cottage. Hiking the private trails in the summer is great but in the fall there is the added treat of watching the trees turn a myriad of bright colours. In the winter, relish in the fallen snow and enjoy snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. The E-trail for ATV riding and snowmobiling is at the end of the long private driveway.
At the end of your fun-filled days, relax with your favourite beverage on the deck, start up the BBQ for dinner and then gather round the fire bowl and roast marshmallows for dessert. As the sky fills up with a blanket of stars and you listen to the soothing call of the loons, plan for your next day’s adventures and give thanks to the beauty and serenity that surrounds you!Just a short drive away you can enjoy great shopping, dining and boating. The outdoors enthusiast will love exploring the nearby Haliburton Forest and Wildlife Reserve, Wolf Centre and Skyline Park for hiking, biking or whitewater paddling at Minden Whitewater Preserve. When the day is done head back to this cozy lakehouse for a BBQ dinner by the fire pit before planning tomorrow's adventures!
The Kawarthas are home to an eclectic group of towns rich with Canadian history. The quaint town of Kinmount can be found 20 minutes from the cottage with local artisans and the amazing Highland Cinema- a blast from the past! Bobcaygeon is also nearby with Ontario's largest selection of elegant home décor shops, unique gift shops and local vendors. The town's farmers market take place every Saturday starting at 8am! Rent or bring your bikes and explore the Kawartha Trans Canada Trail with stunning views and trestle bridges!
