About
Wiarton is the basecamp to the Bruce Peninsula and holds all the intrigue and charm you’d expect from a Canadian getaway. It is named after Wiarton Place in Maidstone, Kent. When Wiarton was first settled in the 1850s, the Governor-General of Canada was originally from Wiarton Place, inspiring the name.
Wiarton was once a bustling lumber town with seven mills, and though the mills are not in operation anymore, the town is still as busy as ever. It features five motels and multiple other accommodation options, as well as plenty of natural attractions. It doesn’t matter how big your family is or what you’re interested in; you can find it in or near Wiarton!
Things to Do
When you leave our Bruce Peninsula cottage rentals to explore all Wiarton has to offer, the first thing you’re likely to notice is the stunning nature. Georgian Bay is right at your disposal, offering all kinds of watersports or simply the opportunity to relax near the waves. You’ll also want to spend some time admiring the renowned wildflowers in the various gardens and enjoying the gorgeous Bruce Peninsula weather.
If you’re interested in keeping active, hike through the famous Bruce Trails into the Spirit Rock Conservation Area. You can also head just 10 minutes north of town to get to the mountain bike park if you’re looking for an adrenaline rush. In winter, the town attracts tons of skiers and snowmobilers. If you’re visiting in early February, be sure to stop by the Wiarton Willie Festival!
