We loved the week we spent at Jake’s Place! The location can’t be beat – it feels quite secluded, yet is on the edge of town and just a few minutes’ walk from all the shops and restaurants. There is privacy from neighbours on either side, but there is a fair amount of traffic along the water behind the cottage – the Chi-Cheemaun (which we really enjoyed seeing sailing in and out of the harbour 4x per day), local sight-seeing boats, as well as a number of kayaks that vacationers rent in Small Tub Harbour and paddle around to Big Tub Harbour to see the shipwrecks. We found the kitchen to be very well equipped for all of the meals we cooked. The pine paneling, stone fireplace and nautical decor details give the cottage a true cabin feel. We loved the full wall of sliding glass doors that open onto the back deck and give a beautiful view to Georgian Bay beyond. The water entry is a bit difficult to navigate due to the rocks and current from the lake. Our kids are young teens, and I think they were an ideal age for this – they had no issues with swimming or launching paddleboards, and even enjoyed jumping from some of the larger boulders on the shore into the lake, but the rocky entry and quick drop-off to deep water might make it unsuitable for younger children. However, I would also say that this cottage has one of the best water entries we saw along the shoreline; many sit high on a cliff and don’t have the space for a deck/sitting area right beside the water like Jake’s Place does. We paddled our SUPs down to the shipwrecks numerous times – bring goggles so you can jump in and swim around for a closer look. There are plenty of friendly chipmunks on the property, so don’t forget to bring a bag of (unsalted) peanuts to encourage them to feed from your hand! The fire pit area is also lovely and we made use of it several times. Overall we were really pleased with this find and would highly recommend it.

True to the listing, this cottage is exactly as pictures show. Location wonderful. 5 min walk to boardwalk and marina. Cottage is well equipped and very clean! View is truly spectacular. Bring water shoes to safely enter water! Truly a lovely stay for 2 couples. Would have been nice to have an additional double or queen bed but we managed. Would recommend!!
