About

Lion’s Head is a peaceful port village in the heart of the Bruce Peninsula. It’s located right on the shores of Isthmus Bay and is surrounded by stunning limestone cliffs. If you view the cliffs from Georgian Bay, they resemble the head of a lion, hence the name of the town. The city is located on the 45th parallel, putting it exactly halfway between the North Pole and the equator.

It’s hard to describe exactly what it is about Lion’s Head that keeps drawing people back, but once you visit, you can experience it for yourself.

There is an unbelievable serenity to the area, all with the breathtaking backdrop of the Caribbean-colored waters and stunning scenery all around you. If you’re looking for a relaxing vacation spot in Ontario, this is the place!

Things to Do

You’ll find countless things to do near our Bruce Peninsula cottage rentals in Lion’s Head, and much of the activity revolves around the water. Bruce Peninsula Boat Tours takes you with an experienced guide to learn about the wildlife and nature of the area. You can head to Lion’s Head Marina to watch the boats go by, or visit Boat Rentals at Miller’s Family Camp or Boat Rentals at Summer House Park to rent one for yourself.

Lion’s Head has several incredible beaches that the whole family will enjoy. Black Creek Provincial Park, Lion’s Head Beach, Singing Sands Beach and Trails, and Hope Bay Beach are a few of the most popular shorelines in the area. They’re all gorgeous and safe for everyone in your group to take part in.

There are also several attractions that are unique to Lion’s Head, like the Lion’s Head Lighthouse and Lion’s Head Nature Reserve. Both of these activities give you a look into the history and culture of the city. St. Margaret’s Chapel and the Cape Croker Lighthouse are a couple more popular options. If you’re looking for an adrenaline rush, visit little Cove Adventures Aerial Park, or if you want to truly relax, join in on a yoga retreat! If you’re interested in astronomy, join Bayside Astronomy on Friday and Saturday night at the Peninsula Observation Deck.

For the nature lover in your group, Lion’s Head Provincial Park provides the perfect place to take a hike through the most awe-inspiring scenery of Ontario and enjoy the gorgeous weather on the Bruce Peninsula. Be sure to head up to Lion’s Head Lookout for a one-of-a-kind view! White Bluff Provincial Park and Ira Lake Provincial Park are a couple more popular spots in the area, but it doesn’t stop there! Lyle Island Nature Reserve, Hope Bay Forest Provincial Nature Reserve, and Black Creek Provincial Park are even more options for you.

Your nature lover will also want to visit Greig’s Caves, featuring natural limestone caves and views from 300 feet above the Georgian Bay, as well as the Bruce Trail, where you can hike in the nature reserve famous for having the largest concentration of glacial potholes on the escarpment. If you don’t mind taking a little drive, the Bruce Peninsula National Park is just half an hour north. We promise it’s worth it!

While you’re in the area, you have to do some shopping! The Dandy Lion is perfect for grabbing a souvenir that is uniquely Canadian made. You can also visit Hellyer’s Food Market to find some snacks to take back to your cottage. Be sure to head to the cereal aisle to find the hidden staircase that takes you up into Grandad’s Attic, where you can find a unique antique, locally made soap, clothing, and more!

If you somehow run out of things to do in Lion’s Head, there are plenty of nearby options along the Bruce Peninsula. Drive to the top of the peninsula to experience Tobermory, or go down to the base of the peninsula to explore Wiarton. You might also enjoy Sauble Beach, particularly if you’re looking for a swim. The whole of the Bruce Peninsula is yours to discover!
