Visit the Best Beaches in Ontario During Your Summer Trip

Visiting Ontario in the summertime can be a great way to relax and unwind with your family. There are all kinds of fun activities to enjoy. From shopping, dining, exploring nature, learning the area’s history, and much more. However, nothing is more essential to a great summer vacation than heading to the beach!

Thankfully, there are numerous beaches in Ontario for you to soak up the sun this summer.

You don’t have to travel to a crowded city to experience the best beaches in Ontario, either. Staying in one of our cottage rentals in Ontario puts you on the gorgeous Bruce Peninsula, where you’ve got uninterrupted access to the beach and all its activities. Here are a few of the most beloved Ontario beaches for you to consider during your trip!

Sauble Beach

Sauble Beach, Ontario, might be the most obvious place to enjoy the sand and surf. You’ll have access to 10 beautiful kilometers of shoreline along Lake Huron. As soon as you step onto this beach, you’ll understand why this destination is one of the most popular Ontario beaches!

You’ll pay a small admission fee to enter when you arrive. In some spots, you can even drive your car onto the sand, which can save a ton of time unloading your vehicle and carrying all your things onto the shore! Many visitors and families head here in the summertime to enjoy watersports like paddle boarding and jet skiing. If you’d rather stay on the sand, you can engage in a competitive game of beach volleyball or spread out a towel and work on your tan.

You’re bound to start craving a snack during your time on the beach. Luckily, there are several restaurants within walking distance from the shoreline, making it easy for you and your crew to get refreshments. Cool off with some ice cream on a sweltering day! While Sauble Beach is great for families, it’s important to note that dogs aren’t allowed on the shore. Come enjoy all the fun that Sauble Beach has to offer!

Southampton

If you’re looking for a more tranquil and relaxing experience without the crowded conditions, you’ll want to head to Southampton. You’ll find unique and breathtaking views and plenty of shorelines to enjoy. This beach is a bit underrated, so you might find that you have a whole section of the sand all to yourself!

Southampton invites you to walk along the shore and get your toes wet as you watch the waves come in for the tide. You can set yourself up on the sand of the main beach or walk over to the dune grass to set up for a picnic. When you decide to wade into the water, you’ll find that the bottom is pebbles and rocks rather than sand. It’s recommended that you bring a pair of water shoes if you have them.

The beach itself isn’t all you can look forward to in Southampton. You can also walk over to the Pinafore Boardwalk, a historical landmark that will take you from High Street to Beach Street. Take a stroll and enjoy the view or relax on one of the benches along the way.

Indian Head Cove

Indian Head Cove might take a little longer to reach than some of the other public beaches in Ontario, but we promise it’s worth the time and effort to get there! To get to this beach, you’ll need to visit the Tobermory area and make your way to the Brue Peninsula National Park. From there, you’ll take a 30-minute hike through the forest. Don’t worry; this hike is relatively easy and can be accomplished by hikers of all ages and skill levels.

Once you arrive at Indian Head Cove, you’ll find a small and peaceful beach with picturesque rock shelves and cliffs. Be sure to bring your camera! You’re welcome to spend your time relaxing on the pebble beach or enjoy some action as you head out into the water.

If you plan to visit Indian Head Cove from April 30 to October 31, you should note that you’ll need a permit. Visit the Bruce Peninsula National Park website to book your time slot. Do so as soon as possible because these four-hour time slots can fill quickly!

The Grotto

When you come to Indian Head Cove, you’ll be getting a 2-in-1 experience! In this same area lies The Grotto, where you can explore a stunning shore cave! Climb down into the cave for truly one-of-a-kind views. While you’re there, be sure to find the Natural Arch rock feature and get your picture taken in front of it!

Not only will you find rock features in The Grotto, but you’ll also find some of the most breathtaking clear blue waters you’ve ever seen! This scenic area is quite a popular spot, but with so much shoreline to experience, you won’t feel overcrowded.

Plan Your Stay!
